Dermal filler can be used in selected areas to add shape, support or volume. The aim is not automatically to add more. Sometimes a carefully considered treatment can help restore support, improve definition or bring the proportions of the face into better balance. The right plan depends on your features, anatomy, previous treatment and what you would genuinely like to change.
Dermal fillers are injectable products used to add volume, shape or support in selected areas. The product and amount depend on the area being treated and the result we are aiming for. I'll explain exactly what I recommend before you decide.
We can discuss lips, cheeks, the folds between the nose and mouth, lines below the corners of the mouth and the area around the lips. Chin or jawline treatment may also be considered as part of a facial assessment. Previous filler matters, so please tell me what you've had and when.
I will assess your face as a whole, listen to what you would like to improve and explain what I think is realistic. We will consider your anatomy, previous filler, the amount of product that may be appropriate and whether a different treatment — or no treatment — would make more sense.
I will make the treatment as comfortable as possible and talk you through each step. We can discuss suitable comfort measures for the area and product being used, and you can pause or ask questions at any point.
Swelling, bruising, tenderness and temporary unevenness can occur after filler. There are also less common complications, including infection, lumps and a blocked blood vessel, which can damage the skin. Very rarely, serious complications can affect vision. I'll explain the risks relevant to your treatment, how I manage concerns and the signs that need urgent attention.
The aim is not to make everyone look the same or to fill every area. I want the result to make sense for your face and your wishes, and I will tell you honestly if I think the requested treatment is not appropriate.

Will I look overdone?
The plan is based on your features and your aims rather than giving everyone the same result. We will discuss the amount and the look you are comfortable with, and you do not have to go ahead.
Can filler improve facial balance?
It may be considered where a small change in one area could improve the relationship between different features. Facial balancing is individual, so the assessment is more important than choosing several separate areas.
How comfortable is dermal filler?
You may feel brief stinging, pressure or tenderness. I will make the treatment as comfortable as possible and explain any comfort measures that are suitable for you.
What will I look like immediately afterwards?
You may have some swelling, redness, tenderness or bruising, and the area may look different before it settles. The final result should not be judged immediately after treatment.
How long does filler last?
This varies depending on the product, area, amount used and how your body responds. I will talk you through realistic expectations for the treatment being considered rather than promising a fixed length of time.
What should I do if something feels wrong afterwards?
Contact me urgently if you develop increasing or unusual pain, pale or mottled skin, or any other worrying change after an injection. Sudden changes in vision need emergency assessment immediately. Follow the urgent instructions in your aftercare rather than waiting for a routine message reply.
What if I have had filler elsewhere?
Tell me what you have had and when. Previous product, the area treated and how it has settled all matter when deciding whether further treatment is suitable.
Every treatment starts with an honest, unhurried assessment. If you're not sure this is the right one for you, a new client consultation is a good place to begin instead.
